Can she really be 14?

J is 14 today. Last year I blogged about her entering her teen years and the bittersweetness of it. Today, as I take time to reflect on her first year in teenhood-I am proud to say it has been terrific. She is an exceptional girl. She is currently President of Student Council for the MS, Captain of the Cheerleaders, and a straight A student with a drive that is amazing. It is my hope and prayer for her that she never loses it...her motto is STAY FOCUSED. When I see J walking down the hall (since I teach in the MS) there is this look of determination on her face (and she even stops and occasionaly hugs me now).
Tonight we party. We are having a barn party, bonfire w/ hot dogs and marshmallows, and the girls are camping out in our tent and a possible hay ride. This is the first boy/girl party I have had here and I am honestly looking forward to it, but more than ready to get it over with. My hubby has been the best by setting it all up and cleaning out the barn. He is probably more excited than anyone because this is HIS type of thing. And I am glad HE is doing most of the work. lol
I am not sad today. I am okay with her turning 14. And it is a day to celebrate life-a life that I am proud to have brought into the world! ;)
But in two years-I don't want to think about how I will feel for obvious reasons.

Yuck! Just the thought of parties at my house gives me hives. I am all about distinatiion parties. I can enjoy the party and the mess is not mine to clean up.

I find it very hard to believe that J can be that old. You are raising a phenominal young woman and that is in no small part thanks to you!

Thanks Carey. I appreciate you commenting. And I always thought destination parties were the BEST also. Skateport, Pizza Hut, you name it-we have done it all. But this was a lot of fun. I developed relationships with some of her friends that I didn't already know so well and met more parents. J has a close knit class with some fantastic and caring parents. We help each other out that way! :)
It was a lot of fun. Some drama- of course. But a good time was had by all. Am I glad it is over? Absolutley? Will I do it again? Absolutely!

guess my comment didn't post, so i'll post again.

Happy Birthday J! It seems like yesterday I was holding you on my belly and Bria started kicking you saying "Don't make me come out there and beat you up!"
They grow up too fast!
