As I sit here wondering what to write about after my somewhat long sabbatical (writer's block) I am taking time to reflect on the things around me. Right now the only noise I hear is the humming of my gateway and the clicking of the keyboard keys.....but soon I will be inundated with pounding (new siding being installed on the house) a three year old and probably the songs from Dora or Diego or even Little Einsteins. But in the stillness of the morning I can relax, think about how much weight I need to lose (magically if possible) before DH and I go on vacation and reflect on the funniest thing my kids have said in the last few days...
1. Christine, a lovely and precocious three and a half year old, walks into the room where I am cleaning and says "Mommy, will you come help me wearn my wetters?"
Me: "In a little bit honey, I'm trying to get this cleaned up in here."
She leaves and returns in five minutes: "Will you help me wearn my wetters now?"
Me: "Sweetie, I will in a few minutes, I'm almost done in here."
She leaves and returns in less than a minute: "Will you help me NOW?"
Me: "Just a couple more minutes, I'm almost done".
Sighing, she says: "Do I not have a mommy who will wet me wearn my wetters!?"
Me: "Yes, you DO have a mommy who will let you learn your letters, I'm just trying to get this done first." Shaking her head and sighing, "I do not have a mommy who will wet me wearn to wead!"
Me, rolling my eyes at her first official and masterfully played manipulation: "Yes, let's go!" {We sat for 1/2 an hour, she read four words and I finished my cleaning with a happy three and half year old playing peacefully...equipped with the knowledge of letters, words and guilt :) }
2. Ryan, leaving for another school today, asked the same question when he was ready to walk out the door "Are you wearing lipstick?"
Me: "no, no lipstick."
Ryan: "Did you drink coffee?"
Me: "No, no coffee...no lipstick."
Ryan : "OK, then I can kiss you, but you'd better not be tricking me!"
(Another happy and non-lipstick smudged, coffee breath kiss as he leaves to have a fun day. )
3. Nicki, after a day at school, comes in, looks straight at DH and says "Oh, is Daddy home?"
To which, we ALL, including Nicki, say "No....he's not here".
Much laughter followed that one.
4. Bria, after babysitting two little girls for a couple of hours is riding home with DH and I, says "I don't know if I'm just really tired and don't know it, or am so tired that I don't realize that I am totally exhausted."
{quizzically} DH and I look at each other and exclaim in unison "You're tired!"
Kind of a "duh" moment there...but hey, she's 13.
