THE TRADE OFF!

Jean2 again. I finally know what the trade off is in NOT BEING PHYSICALLY EXHAUSTED at the end of the day from teaching fifth graders-THE GRADING! Oh my oh my oh my...I grade 21 reading, grammar and spelling papers a day. Then I start on my 63 History papers. This will eventually send me over the edge if I don't find another strategy. Some teachers secretly talk about "file 54." I really don't like the idea of throwing their papers in the trash after they have worked so hard on them. I also wonder just how long it would take for them to catch on those papers were not returned. I personally like to give the instant feedback or at least the next day feedback such as "correct and return" or "excellent work"...and I am driving myself over the edge. In first grade, for obvious reasons-this was much easier. Boring topic and I am rambling. Enough said. Comments appreciated! :)

Hi, and thanks for the comment on my blog. I'm just starting out but I do have many stories about being a stepmom. So, your a teacher? My older sister has been a teacher for a little over ten years. She is teaching special ed right now and also working on her administrative degree to become a principal. How old are your stepkids? Mine are 6 and 8.

I WARNED you about all that grading...but did you listen? :p

I personally loved my "circular file" in 3rd grade, and the kids did so much work every day, they never seemed to notice.

When I told J, 3rd grade teacher that I was doing that, she said, "Me too, just call it practice for them!"

I wish I had more suggestions for you, but I was drowning in grading. It nearly killed me, and that is why I went back to Kdg.!

Use that Plan Time, woman! And I always set a time I would leave...I'd grade till 4:15, then I was out of there. Again, ask J and G, I bet they have some tricks.

Or, quit assigning so much work.

Hey, whatever happened to having students grade their own work? Huh? That's both a lesson in cooperation and gets 20 papers graded at once. Or getting a high school student to do the grading...just thinking out loud. At our school, parent volunteers do the daily grading. love, jean1
