Jean 1 here...
Today I subbed for a teacher friend. She had to have a procedure done before Christmas break and is out for one more week. And today, I became both a student and teacher all over again. You see, although I was always a good student, like all kids there was one subject that I truly struggled over. Not in ability, but in interest. I would never have learned anything if left to my interests to learn such subjects. So today, when I walked into the classroom and learned that I would be teaching science for the week my heart did a flip-flop and I began to feel nauseous. At first I just sat there feeling all "wonky" inside reading over the lesson plans. It looked like something that could sink me if I allowed it to do so.
After the initial attendance and discussion about my being a sub and their being responsible for teaching me how they would like for me to treat them (i.e. you act like you know how to behave and I will be a nice sub, you act like a bunch of wild animals and I will become a mean sub) they left for special classes and I sat down to some serious praying. I asked Holy Spirit to be the teacher and allow me to learn from Him the things that I needed to know to teach the students that would be under my care.
Once the kids returned for the dreaded science lesson something amazing happened. As I began to speak I would find words of wisdom flowing into my mind and out through my mouth. They were the exact words needed to communicate with these 5th graders to invoke thought and considerate conversation. Every student entered into the discussion of experiments and were all able to find something fun to share. We had a good time.
I taught the same lesson three times for 90 minutes each time...and each time I was able to be involved with enthusiasm...God inspired enthusiasm. I am so thankful that I had to humble myself to teach this lesson. With this, I know that He will equip me to teach the entire week with intelligence and Godly joy.
And now......I shall sleep for it has been an exhausting day.

We're all teaching...and we're all students
