Scene: The city has been hit with an ice storm of massive proportions. As much as 90% of the city's utilities have been rendered powerless. Families around the area are huddling together in the fortunate ones homes who still possess power. )
Fresh from her shower, with a cup of warm tea in her hand, Jean1 enters her room and seats herself at her laptop to begin blogging the events of the last few days.
Hello all readers. I am so happy to announce that our family is one of the few families with power in the area. We have been very blessed to still be able to watch TV, have heat, do laundry, take showers and, yes, use our computers. I am very glad for the conveniences that we have. At this time, it makes me think of the characters in the books that Jean 2 and I have become acquainted with in the book series by Beverly Lewis. They are Amish characters that, of course, live without utilities and all the great things that come with having electricity. In one of the books a time is described when a big ice storm hits the area and how their English neighbors were panicking while they were going on as normal. At some levels I find that kind of lifestyle enticing...knowing that they can just go on and do what needs to be done without worry about getting the lights back on or figuring out how to cook.
My beloved Rob, who was off work yesterday, went to Walmart for needed supplies and snacks. I then went to the grocery store today to stock up on extra items in case some of our powerless neighbors need refuge in our home. While I was there, I took video of the inside of the store...running strictly on the generator. It was somewhat surreal to be in a dark, but open store. The veggies and fruits were nearly depleted and the store had moved all the cold items to a back storage area so it looked a bit like i picture Russia in the food shortages. I will try to figure out how to get the video from my phone to the computer, but i may not be able to do so....if i do, i will post it. I will also take photos of some of the trees tomorrow.
Until then, I'm off to play some scrabble, maybe knit and fold some towels.
Here's to staying warm and cozy.

we have been lucky too! out of power for an hour and a half last night, but that's all...it's like there's a big circle of destruction all around OUR house...we're feeling very grateful!
Power outages are always sort of exciting...but eventually I want everything back to normal! How nice of you to think of your neighbours, so many wouldn't.
