BACK TO THE DAILY GRIND!

Jean2 here and what I mean by the "daily grind" is BACK TO SCHOOL. No more hours on end with friends drinking Starbucks, eating out, walking the mall, swimming in the pool, chatting about nothing, and laying on my couch watching Soap Operas while reading my novel during commericals. And of course staying up all hours of the night and sleeping in so late that there is no need to eat breakfast. Many of us are going through the process of back to school. Some are teachers, some are students, and some are moms. I always get "pumped" at this time of year. Growing up I always loved when school started. Fall is my favorite season. I love the "newness" in the air and all the new promises to self of being the BEST student and now teacher I could or can be that year. A little anxiety was always mixed up in there and that has not changed. I am going through a "drastic" change in my career. Yes I call it a career because that is what it is. I have decided to make the jump from 1st grade teacher to 5th grade teacher. WOW! So-that was (as Jean1 so nicely pointed out) is part of the FUNK I was in last week. I will be teaching History, Reading, Grammar, and Spelling. I am both excited and nervous. I also have a new principal along with 5th grade moving into eMints. For those of you that do not know what eMints is...WELCOME TO THE CLUB! Actually it is basically "teaching with technology." Gone are the days of just chalkboards, textbooks, and worksheets. Although they will still be needed they are going to be somewhat replaced with smartboards, LDC projectors, computers, scanners, printers, ipods, and laptops!EEEEEEKKKKK! FREAKS ME OUT! You might remember my post about technology-not my strong point. However, thanks to Jean1 I have learned some valuable skills that will help me in the teaching of my students. And I will receive A LOT of training with technology. God be with this person. This week I have been decorating and organizing my classroom. I am quite pleased with how it looks and feeling the pressure of getting things done. I do work better under pressure. I find it a thrill to be "under fire" and see how much I can get done. ADRENALINE! Now if Jean1 would just get back from her mini vacation (she is always on vacation-hehe)she can come over and help me. I am a highly dependent person. All readers out there-wish me well. And get us some more readers who like to comment. I love comments. If any of you have been or are teachers...I love advice. CHEERS to all teachers especially at this time of year!!

I can't WAIT to see your room! You are going to a great 5th grade teacher. I'm looking forward to living vicariously through you. And yes, I admit, with shame, that I MIIIIIIIISSSSSSSS the mad, crazy, adrenaline rush that is The Week Before School Starts. I always loved that 'fresh start' feeling. Good luck and keep blogging (you can do that while the kids work quietly - they DO that in 5th grade!!)

Of course it is my goal to teach my 5th graders how to blog! I think it is a valuable life lesson. Hmmmmmmmm....some of them might know more than I do about it. LOL
